Giving Back to the Community

20 years ago, Adrienne and I thought it would be a great idea to publish a newsletter every couple of months. We didn't do it and now feel the time is right, although with the advent of new technology we will use the web as well.

Now we are a few years older, a good bit wiser and a good bit more callous. That leads us to this website. Finally, with the prodding of some good people in the village, we are going to fulfill our desire to see the local community unite around a current affairs programme.

We will, with the help and input of interested local organisations and individuals, expand our initial ideas to a whole new - and very exciting - plateau.

We envision a place, here within the confines of this website, where anyone can come and go as they like while viewing galleries of artwork by local professional and amateur artists, craftspersons and musicians. Everyone will be encouraged to support the local talent and contribute themselves.

There will be forums for those who's desire it is to share their ambitions with other like-minded persons as well as forums for those who want to shout at each other about things they don't agree about.

All this will hopefully encourage a bit more participation within the community and maybe, just maybe, some of those persons who felt left out will find a place here where they feel comfortable to start a dialogue - maybe through art - maybe through prose - maybe through song. All are welcome and we encourage each person to contribute something as a gesture of support for the others that feel the same.

There are many forms of contact on the site; you can fill in forms and send to us; you can drop into the office and discuss it with us; you can put it directly in the gallery or calendar. We hope to make it easier and easier to participate and we welcome any criticism from anyone at anytime. Don't be a stranger in your own community. Join in and let's see what happens.

I can't do it myself, but with a bit of input on your side I bet we can make a right good go of it. What I need from you is to use the site and encourage others to do the same.

If involving persons in our local clutural scene can inspire just one more person, young or old, to be that bit more creative and expand their ability by exploiting their talent, then this is a good thing. If we can get young persons talking with more mature persons about the same things, maybe a bit of the creativeness will continue on. Bring your kids to the next gig and inspire them to come up with the goods. Show them the gallery here and maybe .... just maybe .... it will all be worth it in the end.

We are lucky in this area to be so surrounded by natural talents. We tend to become naive and fail to enjoy the places, people and things of our area. Hopefully this will be a start of many good ventures.

Open the 'Gallery' and have a look - if you are an experienced artist, or maybe just a closet scribbler, register (it costs nothing) and start putting up your artwork.

Where are the 'festivals', 'storytellers', 'musicians' and just plain interesting local folk? Hopefully, you just might find them here ... if so ... because of your help, we've succeeded.

Many parents are interested in finding activities for their children. If you happen to be a person or organisation that caters for children - we wan't to hear from you. Drop us a line and we can organise for your information to be posted on the calendar or create a feature of your business.
